dave is a begrudging gryffindor and rose is a polite slytherin so in a situation where they have to choose between saving themselves or saving other people everyone’s shocked that rose grabs dave and GOES and dave wants so bad to just leave with her but his conscience literally won’t let him so he ends up dragging her back to the disaster with him
